Basic Restorations

Sisters ~1901

This photograph was taken in the early 1900s.  It has some fading and is a little out of focus. To correct these problems the following steps were taken:

  • Removed fading
  • Adjusted overall tone and contrast
  • Sharpened
  • Smoothed out the coarseness in the face
1938 Portrait

This 1930's portrait was faded, contained a few minor cracks, and was a little out of focus. To repair it we performed the following:

  • Repaired cracks
  • Adjusted overall tone and contrast
  • Sharpened
  • Added depth to picture

Father & Son (1956)

This picture was taken in 1956. It lacks sharpness and the father and son are underexposed.  To restore this picture we performed the following:

  • Corrected the tonal level (ex. black, white, gray) of father & son
  • Sharpened overall image

Atlantic City (~1939)

This is a picture at the beach in Atlantic City, New Jersey around 1938. The picture was faded, lacked clarity, and had a bent lower right-hand corner. we performed the following retouching:

  • Adjusted brightness & contrast
  • Restored black, white and grey levels
  • Repaired bent corner
  • Sharpened image
Photo of Aunt

This is one of the only recent pictures the Client had of their aunt. They wanted the picture touched up and to have some of the aging signs removed. Per Clients instructions we:

  • Removed hands from back of chair
  • Cleaned up marks on dress
  • Removed most wrinkles
  • Smoothed out the coarseness in the face
  • Sharpened facial features
  • Increased color brightness and contrast
1940's Portrait

This 1940's portrait was printed on canvas-like textured paper and contained a few minor cracks and a spot on the left arm. We retouched it with the following steps:

  • Repaired cracks and damaged areas
  • Smoothed out coarse canvas-like picture texture
  • Sharpened photograph
  • Increased brightness and contrast
  • Removed fading
